The Christmas Wish Update

I didn’t get a chance to post last week. The week before hand was a little crazy and then I went to Virginia for my sister’s graduation. Our flight home was delayed so I got home almost five hours later than I should’ve, meaning I lost the time I had hoped to use for writing.

But I did get some work done on The Christmas Wish while waiting in the airport, so there’s that!

So, let me update to you on my progress on The Christmas Wish…

I can see the finish line! So much so, that I’ve set myself a deadline of July 1st, one I believe I can meet!

Right now, I’m working on Chapter 13—which was Chapter 10 when I published it as a fanfiction. I’ve divvied up a couple chapters, so that’s why the numbering has changed. But nonetheless, this just leaves the Epilogue!

Can you tell how excited I am about this? I know it’s difficult to tell in the written word, so here’s a gif:

I’m so thrilled to be thisclose to finishing it. There’s still a lot more work to be done but a Christmas release is looking more and more like a reality rather than a dream. It’s an amazing feeling.

If you want to support all the upcoming work I have to do to ready The Christmas Wish for you, you can do so by making a pledge to my Patreon account! Any amount will help to make this book a reality.

I’m Back!

I got back from Milan last Monday! It was a long day as I was up before dawn in Italy and then flew back several time zones. I was probably up for 24 hours, which wasn’t a good idea as I developed a cold within hours of landing in New York.

Yeah, that’s been fun. I can’t tell if I’ve overcome jetlag because I’m just always tired from the cold and it being my time of the month.

So I really haven’t gotten much writing done this week as I keep falling asleep on my keyboard. (Almost literally in a few cases). I did get some writing done in Milan, trying to carve out some time to do so every night. So that’s a win!

I didn’t get much writing done on the plane. On the way over, I spent the time trying to sleep. It didn’t happen but I tried. And on the way back, the WiFi wasn’t working and the plane had Mary Poppins Returns. So I didn’t really log into my computer until almost the very end of the flight.

But the cold is receding and I’m trying to get some writing done now. So I think an update is in order…

Next week.

“The Christmas Wish” Update

So one of my goals for 2019 is to self-publish this book by Christmas. Let’s see how I’m doing.

I am close to finishing Chapter 9. It’s the first part of what had been Chapter Seven when it was a fanfic, where Adelaide and Theo are starting to fall in love and celebrate their marriage with the rest of the town. Once I’m done, I’ll turn the second part into Chapter 10, which will focus on their first date and contains a lot of Theo’s backstory.

From there, we have an incident that sets Adelaide and Theo back before approaching the climax. The end is nearing and I expect this draft to be done within the next couple months, hopefully by spring.

Then what? Well, I’ll let you know as I get closer. However, I imagine it will be getting some feedback on the new draft.

I know there isn’t a lot to this update. I guess I don’t want to share too much even though it’s been around as a fanfic for two years now. Maybe I’ll have more as I get closer to finishing it.

As a reminder, you can get access to sneak peeks of “The Christmas Wish” as well as deleted material by supporting me on Patreon. Please consider doing so.

Have a good week everyone!

2018 Reading Challenge Update

Another year is about to come to a close. It’s amazing that it’s December already. So since it’s the end of the year, I figure it’s time to do my final Reading Challenge update.

My goal was to read 13 books. So how did I do?

I reached my goal! And I’ll most likely surpass it by one book. I’m currently reading three books but Wives of War is almost done as my Kindle says I’m about 90% of the way through it. According to Goodreads, I’m only about 38% through The Glass Ocean and 28% of The Impossible Girl. So I’m comfortable in saying that Wives of War will be my last finished book of 2018.

I am so proud of myself for hitting my goal. I worried there for a bit this summer but I made it.

How about you?

Starting Over

Okay, I’m sure you know by now that my faithful laptop Old Blue died on me this past September and that I lost almost everything on the hard drive. So I’m now saving everything on my OneDrive account.

I’m sure you probably also remember me working on something I cryptically called my “Big Project.” Guess what was not saved on OneDrive?

So now all that work is gone. I mean, I’m not back completely at square one since the “Big Project” is me converting one of my Outlaw Queen fanfictions into an original novel. At least I have a baseline to start from again.

There are a lot of questions, though, I need to ask myself. Well, there is one big question I’ve been asking myself for several months now:

Do I recreate the extensive rewrites and additional material I initially created when I first started on the “Big Project”?

I’ve really been trying to figure this one out for several months now. I wrote up a lot of new material for the Big Project but I want to keep it under 100,000 words as that is a bit wordy for a novel. And I also figured that people like the original enough—did I really need the new material?

Then I think about some of the stuff I added. A lot of the early part of the Big Project was written from the Main Female Character (MFC)’s point of view and then later on, I added the Main Male Character (MMC)’s. The additional material added some of his perspective earlier. I would like to keep that.

This might end up being a compromise. I try to keep the word count down by sticking as close to my original fanfic as possible but adding some new bits to flesh out the MMC more.

Well, I have some time to figure it out. I first want to get through NaNoWriMo and then I’ll restart the Big Project yet again.

Return to the Big Project

So, I’ve been quiet about this for a while. And there’s a reason—I had to backburner it for a couple…months.

First, I realized I couldn’t focus on it and NaNoWriMo at the same time. I tried but it didn’t work. Not with me having a full time job as well. So I had to make a decision and put the Big Project on hold.

Then came December. “The Christmas Wish” wasn’t completed yet, so I focused on that. With a lot happening before Christmas, I had to keep the Big Project on the backburner so I could get the story finished—as well as my OUAT Secret Santa gift.

Which now brings us to January. I rang in the New Year with a glass of Reisling and then two hours later, I couldn’t breathe out of my nose. As the night wore on, I felt worse and worse and it was clear I had a cold. It was a lot of sleeping as we returned from my sister’s in Virginia and I spent the next day resting as well. After going to work on Tuesday, I was knocked out and called out sick on Wednesday because I was just feeling awful. I spent the rest of the week trying to get better.

And then my grandmother died.

So I realized January just wasn’t good. I decided to start again February 1st…and then got felled by a stomach bug. (My immune system clearly needs a boost). So that went out the window as well.

Now I’m hoping to restart this week. Wish me luck!

NaNoWriMo 2016 is Done

Another November has come and gone. It’s like I blink and they’re over.

So how was this NaNoWriMo?

I finished at 38, 773 words.

Pretty damn good. Even with a few bumps in the road for me. Namely my great-aunt’s wake and then having to really focus on my entry for the OQ Advent calendar.

Reading Challenge Update

It’s almost November.

As most of you might remember, I started 2016 with a challenge to myself: Read one book a month.

So how am I doing?

Eh. I definitely could be doing better. I’m only just up to the book I assigned to June while still reading April’s and May’s. April’s had to be changed to The Night Circus, which is pretty long and moving very slowly, in my opinion. Things are going better with The Emerald Night (May) and I’m just getting into Welcome to Last Chance (June).

Long Live the Queen Update

It’s been four months since NaNoWriMo ended. And shortly after it, I decided that I needed to greatly rework Long Live the Queen. Change up a few things.

Like what, you ask? Well, I wanted to stress the court conflicts a bit more. Show the danger Morrigan and Snow face in the court. There will be a change with Arthur and how Morrigan meets him. He’s not going to be trapped as a bear and will have magic of his own, helping Morrigan while falling in love with her.

I also don’t want to isolate Morrigan, Hannah and Rose like I had originally done. Instead, I want them taken in by a community. A magical community at that. It should be fun to create such a world. Like my own Harry Potter!

There will probably be more changes. I’ll have to see as I continue writing it.

Of course, feel free to read the first few chapters here.

It’s November 2nd. We’re two days into NaNoWriMo! How’s everyone doing? I think I’m off to a good start.

I’ve gotten a clearer picture of my plot. Just in time, right? So what is it? Read on:
