Sometimes Distance is a Good Thing

When it comes to writing, that is.

I’ve dusted The Christmas Wish and am giving each chapter another look before I proceed with the process. I’ve cleared Chapter 1 with a few minor changes and have moved onto Chapter 2.

And that’s where distance has both helped and hurt.

Let me explain.

I was going through Chapter 2 when I realized it was rather…disjointed…especially at the beginning. And I knew it was my fault. The disjointed parts came from what I had added when I did the first round of rewrites, expanding some things that an original story needs over a fanfic. But in doing so, I muddied up some things by rushing feelings between my main characters and upon a reread, I realized it happened too fast.

And I think I need to decide on a path for their relationship. I want them to go from enemies to lovers (with some underlying sexual tension) thanks to their surprise marriage showing them new sides to each other. So I need to rewrite Chapter 2 which had scenes were they became nicer and closer to each other.

Now, I need to play up the animosity a bit more. And I probably have to play it up a bit more in the later chapters before Theo has a revelation when experiencing Christmas Dinner with Adelaide’s family. It gives him a lot of insight into her.

And then I’m going to have to add her moment of revelation where she gets more insight into him. Hmm, going to have to think about it. Thankfully, I still have some time before I get to that point.

Anyway, I hope everyone is staying safe. And if you’re in the Northeast, that you’re staying warm. We already have close to two feet snow as I post this and the storm isn’t done just yet. Looks like we got a big one.

Though since I’m already working from home due to COVID, snow days aren’t as magical as they once were. COVID killed the snow day.

Don’t forget to check out my Patreon and I hope you have a great week!
