2018 Reading Challenge Update

Another year is about to come to a close. It’s amazing that it’s December already. So since it’s the end of the year, I figure it’s time to do my final Reading Challenge update.

My goal was to read 13 books. So how did I do?

I reached my goal! And I’ll most likely surpass it by one book. I’m currently reading three books but Wives of War is almost done as my Kindle says I’m about 90% of the way through it. According to Goodreads, I’m only about 38% through The Glass Ocean and 28% of The Impossible Girl. So I’m comfortable in saying that Wives of War will be my last finished book of 2018.

I am so proud of myself for hitting my goal. I worried there for a bit this summer but I made it.

How about you?

My Reading Challenge: Time for an Update!

So, we’re at April. One quarter of the year is over—I know, right? Anyway, I figured I would check in to share how this year’s reading challenge is going!

It’s going well. I already have five books read! And I’m getting closer and closer to finally finishing The Night Circus. I really feel like I’ll do that this year.

Stay tuned for thoughts on the book.

The last book I finished was “A Tangled Mercy” by Joy Jordan-Lake, which was a Once Upon a Book Club selection. It told two stories concurrently—the story of Kate, who returned to Charleston, SC, following the death of her mother to find answers and the story of Tom Russell, a slave pulled into a rebellion plot in 1822 Charleston.

I’m down to four books I’m currently reading and I think it will come down to either The Night Circus or The Tory Widow—both on my Kindle—as the next I finish. I am making good progress in The Cottingley Secret and The Taster, both Once Upon a Book Club selections.

I am going to Paris in a few weeks, so perhaps I’ll get some reading down on the plane and will put myself even further ahead. I have plenty of books to catch up on for Once Upon a Book Club.

How about you? Are you doing a reading challenge? If so, how’s it going? Sound off below!

Reading Challenge Update

It’s November. The year is almost over. So let’s take a look at how my Reading Challenge is doing.

As a reminder, I challenged myself to read 12 books this year, which would break down to one book a month.

I am happy to report that I am on track and may even finish early if I can finish one of my Once Upon a Book Club books before November is over. (My money is on A Strange Companion over The Saturday Evening Girls Club, though I doubt that won’t be too far behind).

So I’m proud of myself. I met my goal and read so many new books this year. Will I up my goal for next year? I’m not sure. I’ll have to see.

But one goal I definitely know I’ll set for 2018? Finally finishing The Night Circus. It’ll be going on two years and I don’t want to abandon it.

Did you challenge yourself this year? How are you doing? Will you challenge yourself in 2018? Sound off below!

It’s halfway through the year so I thought I would update you on how I’m doing on my goal to read more this year. On Goodreads, I set a goal of 12 books (one book for each month). How am I doing?

I’m actually on target! That’s right, I read six books through June and I just finished my seventh. If I play my cards right, I hope to have the eighth finished by the end of the month.

Maybe even the ninth.

Reading Challenge Update

It’s almost November.

As most of you might remember, I started 2016 with a challenge to myself: Read one book a month.

So how am I doing?

Eh. I definitely could be doing better. I’m only just up to the book I assigned to June while still reading April’s and May’s. April’s had to be changed to The Night Circus, which is pretty long and moving very slowly, in my opinion. Things are going better with The Emerald Night (May) and I’m just getting into Welcome to Last Chance (June).

Reading Challenge Update #2

Good news! I’ve finished one book in my reading challenge! It’s February’s book, Ticker. A proper review for it will eventually go up on my blog.

So how do I stand? Not as good as I expected. I didn’t get as much reading done while on vacation like I thought. Though I did make a lot of headway in Ticker, which is why it’s the first book finished.

But I have been on jury duty for most of the month. I was one of the “lucky” few chosen to sit on a jury. And there’s quite a bit of downtime. So I’ve been doing some reading. I’ve made some progress so far. I think I’ll be approaching when I just focus on finishing Shadow Scales soon. It is starting to pick up as well as we approach the climax.

Reading Challenge Check In

It’s March! So I thought I would check in to see how I’m doing with my reading challenge.

The answer: Not as well as I would like.

I’m honestly still working on Shadow Scales and only just started reading Tinker simultaneously. So I’m behind. But I hope to catch up.

Vacation! I’m going on a cruise for my birthday. So I’ll have some time to read. Especially with no internet connection and wifi. Of course, I’ll also be on a Disney cruise. There’s plenty to do. But I think I can work in some reading.

I should try to work in some reading beforehand. I have been focusing on my writing way more than my reading. So I need to find a better balance. I just have to figure that out.

There just aren’t enough hours in the day.

My 2016 Reading Challenge

One of my Anticipations for 2016 was to read more. Especially as my Goodreads reading challenge for 2015 showed I only read 6 books. Of course, that doesn’t count all the fanfiction I read last year. Which was a lot. (Thank you again, OQ fandom!)

Anyway, I wasn’t happy when I saw that. So I decided to change it. That’s why I decided to challenge myself. One book a month. And I’ve set what books I’m going to read. Here they are:

January: "Serafina" by Rachel Hartman
February: "Tinker" by Lisa Mantchev
March: "The Rose Garden" by Susanna Kearsley
April: "Showtime" by Chloe Kayne
May: "Emerald Knight" by Michelle Pillow
June: "Welcome to Last Chance" by Hope Ramsay
July: "Code Name Verity" by Elizabeth Wein
August: "The Tory Widow" by Christine Blevins
September: "Turning Pages" by Tristi Pinkston
October: "The Midnight Queen" by Sylvia Izzo Hunter
November: "Hood" by Stephen R. Lawhead
December: "A White So Red" by Krystal Jones

Wish me luck!
