Long Live Outlaw Queen

This entry started off as something completely different. It goes back to this entry where I wrote about how the writers of Once Upon a Time were bringing Robin Hood (Sean Maguire) back for a multi-episode arc. That arc began at the very end of Episode 10 (“Wish You Were Here”) when Regina (Lana Parrilla) encountered a version of Robin Hood in a realm created by a wish made by the Evil Queen, and ended two Sundays ago with Episode 14 (“Page 23”).

When Once came back after the winter hiatus (“Tougher Than the Rest”), Regina pursued Robin to find out if his life was better without her. She found out this Robin lost Marian before he could marry her and never became a thief with honor, stealing for himself rather than giving it to the poor. He admitted that he wasn’t happy and that it seemed the other version of him had a good life, even if it was cut short. Robin and Regina still had that connection, that pull, and they popped thanks to Parrilla’s and Maguire’s chemistry. Emma (Jennifer Morrison) suggested Regina take Robin back with them to Storybrooke and he agreed.

NaNoWriMo 2016 is Done

Another November has come and gone. It’s like I blink and they’re over.

So how was this NaNoWriMo?

I finished at 38, 773 words.

Pretty damn good. Even with a few bumps in the road for me. Namely my great-aunt’s wake and then having to really focus on my entry for the OQ Advent calendar.

It’s Thanksgiving again. My how the year flies by! As usual, I’d like to share what I’m grateful for this year.

As always, I’ll start with my family. Especially given my father’s medical scare earlier this year. Even though his strokes were mild, they were still scary and it was difficult to watch him struggle with the limited mobility in his right hand. But the doctors and the specialists took care of him, we took care of him and he didn’t give up. He might still have some issues but he’s stronger than he was right after the stroke.

I’m also very thankful for my grandmother. She’s 92 and counting. Her health isn’t the greatest and this may be the last Thanksgiving I can be thankful for her. But then again, I’ll always be thankful for her. I love you, Nana.

It’s October, meaning we’re fast approaching November and NaNoWriMo.

I had been debating whether or not I was going to do it. I’m chugging along on my Big Project so I figured I was going to skip this year. But I changed my mind. I am going to participate.

What am I going to write? This time, I’m going to write a fanfic. Surprise, surprise, right?

Here’s a bigger surprise: It’s an Outlaw Queen one!

(Please note the sarcasm)

Dealing with Hate

One of my most popular Outlaw Queen fanfics is one called “The Nanny.” It’s a modern AU where Regina works as a nanny and gets a job with Robin Locksley, a billionaire widower, to take care of his son, Roland. She is also dealing with her father’s cancer, a struggle as he is the only parent in her life since she was eight. On top of all that, she is fighting an instant attraction to her boss while holding onto a dark secret from her past.

This story has always gotten a lot of love. People review the chapters, recommend it, favorite it, and the like. And I’m usually asked about it on a regular basis. People can’t wait for me to update.

One of the reasons why was because I kept hinting at Regina’s dark secret and didn’t just flat out say it upfront. People wanted to know what happened between her and Leopold Blanchard. I let out little hints and dropped a few big ones every so often.

Fanfiction, Original Fiction and Me

In my last post, I said I was grateful for the Outlaw Queen fandom from Once Upon a Time. And that I was going to expound on it. So here we go:

I’ve been posting Outlaw Queen fanfiction for over a year now. And it’s been great. Fans love my writing. “All That Was Me” had its own hashtag on Twitter! I never thought I’d have that with my original writing, let along a fanfic. People also adore my Dark!Robin story, “The Prince of Darkness,” which makes me happy. It just started out as a one-shot. And then it grew bigger. Now, I’m planning a sequel as well.

Then there are my non-magical AUs—”Comfort Food,” “The Nanny,” and “Building a Family.” All have good followings, especially “The Nanny.” People clamor for updates. And they are really complimentary.

But I’m not writing this to toot my own horn. (Okay, maybe a little). I have a point beyond that.
