Once Upon a Time: A Tribute

As I noted in my Chapter II post, it was announced back in February that Once Upon a Time would be ending with Season 7.

Today is the series finale. It’s officially ending. I don’t know if it’s going to really hit me right away or if it’s still going to be delayed, perhaps until July when there are no new set pictures and there is no Comic Con panel. Or September when there’s no premiere to look forward to. I don’t know but I know it will come.

Of course, I’ll probably cry at random times during the weekend. I did so when they killed Robin and I cried the day after the Season 6 finale because that was its own goodbye to the series as well. All of that tells me that it’s going to be another May of tears over Once Upon a Time and it’ll be even more bittersweet that it’ll be the last one.

So since today is the series finale, I want to pay tribute to this show. Because it changed my life in so many ways and I need to say goodbye to it properly.

Paris, Here I Come!

I’m sure you remember a couple months ago, I mentioned that I had bought tickets to The Happy Ending Convention, a Once Upon a Time convention in Paris. Even though I bought the tickets, it didn’t really feel real.

Now, though, it does.

Why?

Because I’ve booked everything!

The company behind the con finally announced the hotel where it would take place as well as where we would get a discount on the rooms. Last year it was in Disneyland Paris. This year, though, it’s in the Hilton by the Charles de Gaulle airport. So I booked my room for that weekend and then decided to see how much a room would be for the rest of my time in Paris. It wasn’t too much more so I booked it until I leave on Thursday. I’m probably just going to be a problem child when I check in since I’ll have to check out and then check back in on Sunday.

Hopefully there will be somebody who can make that easy when I’m there.

I’ve also booked my flight—we got a discount on AirFrance that lasted throughout the time I wanted, so score! I am a bit nervous because I do have a redeye to Paris. While I handled my redeye to London pretty well, I still have concerns after my very first redeye (Hawaii to New York) ended with me sick as dog. I hope this is more like London and not Hawaii.

I’ve also booked the days off from work. So I’m all good on that front.

What are my next steps then?

Once Upon a Time: My Thoughts on Season 7…So Far

We’ve reached the midpoint of Once Upon a Time’s new season. The midwinter finale was December 15th and the season isn’t due to start up again until March 2nd. I’m sure the producers, writers and the network executives have a lot of things to discuss and consider as it comes time to decide if the show gets a season 8 or not.

So now should be a good time to stop and examine the season so far. Fair warning: There will be spoilers for those who haven’t seen the season yet.

For those who don’t know, the writers decided to wrap up the original storylines of Once Upon a Time with the season 6 finale. Of course, the show’s fate was also still unknown so they had to craft something that could stand as a series finale if they were cancelled but they still also wanted to try something new. They wanted to reboot the show and hopefully breath new life into it and they got the green light from ABC to do just that.

The writers have aged up Henry, now played by Andrew J. West (though Jared Gilmore showed up in the first two episodes of the season to play younger Henry in flashbacks). He’s living in Seattle as a failed writer when a young girl named Lucy (Alison Fernandez) knocks on his door and tells him that she’s his daughter. This had actually been the last scene of the season 6 finale, a parallel to Once’s pilot.

NaNoWriMo 2017: It’s Coming!

Holy crap, October is almost over! The end of the year always seems to fly by, doesn’t it? Not the dreary winter months of January, February and March but the fun months—Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas! (Come on, that’s what we really think when we hear October, November and December if you’re American).

It also means that NaNoWriMo is around the corner. Once again, I will be participating. And once again, I will be using it to write my Outlaw Queen Christmas fic.

So, what is it about? Glad you asked!

Autumn Plans (and Hopes)

Well, it’s September. We’re about a week and a half away from the first day of autumn.

As usual, this summer flew by. We had some warm days and some rainy days. I wish I had gotten into the pool a bit more often but I did spend time outside. Got the mosquito bites to prove it too.

However, on September 2nd, I woke up and realized I was okay that it was almost autumn. I came to the realization that autumn was generally my season, not summer, and it was time to fully embrace it.

So I am.

Taking on a Life of Its Own

A couple weekends ago, I decided to take part in a fun thing I saw on tumblr—asking people for a ship and a prompt. Then I would write three sentences (more like three paragraphs) based on that prompt. Seemed like a good way to pass the time.

With the exception of one Regal Believer prompt, most of them were for Outlaw Queen.

One of the first ones I got was for Regina as a soldier returning home from the front and reuniting with her husband and child. Everyone loved it. So much so, they kept sending me more prompts. I’m still getting a bunch almost daily.

So, yes, it’s now taking on a life of its own. I’ve had to give it its own name—Soldier Verse.

Right now, it’s still just a bunch of drabbles. However, I’ve decided to turn it into a proper fanfiction once I’m done with my Dancing With the Stars AU, Better When I’m Dancing. I don’t have a title for it yet, but I have some time to think of one. I’m only a little over halfway done with Better When I’m Dancing, but I hope to get the Soldier Verse fic up before the end of the year.

Just goes to show that you never know what’s going to catch on and grow bigger than you intended.

Long Live Outlaw Queen

This entry started off as something completely different. It goes back to this entry where I wrote about how the writers of Once Upon a Time were bringing Robin Hood (Sean Maguire) back for a multi-episode arc. That arc began at the very end of Episode 10 (“Wish You Were Here”) when Regina (Lana Parrilla) encountered a version of Robin Hood in a realm created by a wish made by the Evil Queen, and ended two Sundays ago with Episode 14 (“Page 23”).

When Once came back after the winter hiatus (“Tougher Than the Rest”), Regina pursued Robin to find out if his life was better without her. She found out this Robin lost Marian before he could marry her and never became a thief with honor, stealing for himself rather than giving it to the poor. He admitted that he wasn’t happy and that it seemed the other version of him had a good life, even if it was cut short. Robin and Regina still had that connection, that pull, and they popped thanks to Parrilla’s and Maguire’s chemistry. Emma (Jennifer Morrison) suggested Regina take Robin back with them to Storybrooke and he agreed.

NaNoWriMo 2016

It’s October, meaning we’re fast approaching November and NaNoWriMo.

Ack!

I had been debating whether or not I was going to do it. I’m chugging along on my Big Project so I figured I was going to skip this year. But I changed my mind. I am going to participate.

What am I going to write? This time, I’m going to write a fanfic. Surprise, surprise, right?

Here’s a bigger surprise: It’s an Outlaw Queen one!

(Please note the sarcasm)

When Fans Win!

I had another entry partially written but something happened  Tuesday, September 27th, that made me start all over again.

As you know, I’ve been very vocal all summer long about how upset I am that Once Upon a Time killed off Robin Hood and let Sean Maguire go. Many of us have been. The week prior, an interview with creators Adam Horowitz and Eddy Kitsis was published where they said they got 3000 tweets every 2 seconds about Robin.

I did the math. That’s 129,600,000 tweets.

Wow.

In the same interview, though, they said that there were no plans to bring Robin Hood back and that “dead is dead.” As you can imagine, the fans were not too happy to hear that and a bit confused. How could over 100 million tweets not make them reconsider their decision?

Well, it looks like it did.

Fighting the Good Fight

Over the past year or so, I’ve gotten candid about being a fan of the TV show Once Upon a Time. I’ve also been forthright about being a total fangirl for the Outlaw Queen ship. As such, May was tough month for me and my shipmates. On the season’s penultimate episode, Robin Hood (Sean Maguire) was killed off.

It was a heroic death. And a beautiful scene. It was also a complete slap in the face to Robin’s fans and to Sean, in my opinion. Because Robin didn’t just die. His soul was obliterated. No chance of an afterlife, no better place. He’s just…gone. Which makes it very, very slim that he will come back.

But we won’t give up. And I am including myself in that. After a few days of crying, I grew angry and determined. While sitting in the courtroom, I decided that I was going to write a letter to ABC. And I did. I wrote about what Robin Hood meant to me and how I felt his death sent the wrong message to fans. A man who was honorable and always tried to do the right thing didn’t a get a chance to move on to a better place after we spent an arc watching several characters, including villains, get that chance. So be good and get nothing, be evil and get everything.

I wrote that it seemed to me that the network didn’t interfere much with the show’s production and so I appreciated the faith they placed in the writers. But that I believed this was a time they needed to step in and encourage the writers to reverse their decision. To make Robin undeaded.
