I’m sorry there was no new entry yesterday. If you follow me on Patreon (which is doubtful judging by all on the zeroes I see on my page), you already know why. My laptop refused to turn on this past weekend. I took it to work and it got diagnosed as being an issue with the AC adaptor. I got it to turn on and work but I definitely need a new AC adaptor before it conks out completely.

Hopefully I can get back on track, so stay tuned! And thanks for your patience!

Luna gathered up all her shopping bags from the backseat of her car, kicking the door closed. She managed to press the lock button with her keys between her fingers as she hurried toward her front door, her arms starting to hurt. After some maneuvering, she got her house key into the lock and unlocked her door. It was a bit difficult to open the door with her hands full of grocery bags but she managed, almost stumbling into her dark and cool house.

She let the bags fall from her hands and land on the floor. As she wiggled her fingers to get the blood flowing into them again, she stepped outside to check her mailbox. Lifting the lid, she pulled out the envelopes inside before returning back to her house and closing the door behind her. It was time to relax at last.

Humming, she put away the frozen items she had bought but left the others for the moment. She padded through her house, up the stairs and into her bedroom. It was time to get out of her suit and change into comfy clothes for the night.

I apologize–the next part of my short story series was not supposed to post on Saturday. I guess I got the dates wrong when setting it up, thinking I set it up for Sunday instead.

I want to format it and add a picture to it. Hopefully I can get it up for tomorrow (Monday) instead.

Once again, I apologize. If you want to read it, you can check out my Patreon.

“The Full Moon” (October Prologue)

waxing moon

A crisp breeze blew through the trees, rattling the leaves that had yet to fall to the ground. Their rustling sound filled the quiet night, startling an owl who hooted into the inky blackness surrounding the area. It was the only living soul in the area.

A figured cloaked in shadows appeared on the gravel road, walking down it. Though the figure wore boots, there was no crunching of gravel or the sound of footfalls. It was as if the figure glided forward, making its way through the forest as shadows reached out tendrils to it, trying to ensnare it.

The figure stopped by a crystal clear lake in the middle of the woods. Clouds floating overhead parted to reveal the white waxing moon, its light reflected in the water. The figure smiled as it took in the sight. Soon all would be ready.

It was time.

A Prelude to October

Today is the last day of September. It always amazes me how fast the year flies by. Before we know it, it’ll be 2019. But first, let’s enjoy the holidays—and yes, I include Halloween in there.

I’m gearing up for another theme week in the OQ fandom, this one surrounding Halloween called SpookyOQ. I’m writing one long story that’s seven chapters long, each chapter working in the day’s prompt into it. The premise is that Robin is hired as Regina’s bodyguard after her ex-husband Leopold puts a hit on her. However, they quickly learn that the hit is a magical one, plunging them into an unknown underworld as they find a way to stop the hit before Regina suffers a fate worse than death.

So it should be a lot of fun and I’m going to working hard on it as three of the days occur during OUATNJ, so I don’t know how much time I will have to write then. I want most of it done ahead of time in that case.

WAIT! THERE’S MORE!

My most popular post ever on this blog has been my short story about the haunted house. I want to write a series of short stories surrounding around Halloween. Stretch out my creativity a bit. So keep an eye on this blog!

Of Short Stories and Inspiration

I realize that while I write my novel, I should try to get other things published. It will help build my portfolio. And that will help when I start looking for an agent when my book is complete.

I’ve sent one story out to several publications. I’ve sadly received a few rejections, but I am still waiting for responses from a majority of them. Fingers crossed!

The story I’ve sent out is one I wrote in college entitled “Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered.” Yes, I do get many of my titles from song lyrics. I am quite proud of this work, which is why it’s the one I started to submit. I edited it, naturally. The draft I submitted to my class was not perfect. The version I submitted to the magazines wasn’t either. I doubt there is such a thing as the perfect manuscript. I’m sure if they could come back, the authors of some of our “classics” would probably want to do some rewrites. So I expanded on a few things, clarified a few other ideas and then sent it out.

In another blog I follow, the writer posed the question What calls your muse? And it’s interesting to realize where one gets inspiration from. Just in the previous paragraph, I admitted I get titles from song lyrics. The inspiration for “Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered” did not come from the song, though. It started with my two main characters. And it wasn’t going anywhere, really. Then inspiration hit in two ways. The first way was a writing exercise my writing professor assigned. The piece I wrote ended up in my final draft. The second way was the season I was writing in. My story was due in class by the end of October. Guess what’s also at the end of October?

In truth, I love the autumn. I’ve also decided that when I find Mr. Right, I am having an October wedding. I also get more inspiration in the autumn. I’m not sure why. Perhaps it’s the cooling temperatures. Maybe it’s the changing leaves. Maybe it’s the feeling surrounding Halloween and Thanksgiving. Maybe it’s the hastening of the days, bringing the end of the year ever closer. Whatever it is, it’s great inspiration.

And I think I will end this part here. Look for Part II, coming soon!
