Umm, What About an Antagonist?

That was a question I just asked myself. Like really, right before I decided to write this post.

Why?

Because of my NaNoWriMo project. I was busy working on it when I realized I had no antagonist. I mean, I guess stories don’t have to have antagonists. So what was I really asking?

I figured it out: Where was my tension going to come from? Was what I had enough? Did I need something more?

Have I answered those questions? No, not really. I don’t know if I’ll have the answers soon. And I don’t think that’s a problem. After all, I’m still editing and rewriting “Fairest of Them All.” Then will come “Dreams of the Rose.” And then will come the editing and rewriting for “The Best Medicine.”

So, for now, I’ve added an antagonist into my retelling of “The Princess Who Never Laughed”—my protagonist’s dreams. I’ll decide if one is needed in her waking life as well. Or if she’ll be her own antagonist.

I’ll see.
