A Writer's Journey

What is “pantsing” you ask? Good question!

“Pantsing” is when a writer just writes their story, no outlining involved.

I am a pantser. And I’m proud of it. It’s part of my linear writing process and my belief that my characters take me on their journeys.

But once again, I’ve found myself diverting from my usual writing practices. Yes, I’m referring to my Once Upon a Time fanfiction, All That Was Me. (I’ve started posting you so you can go read it if you want. Shameless plug?)

I wrote about not writing linearly this time around earlier. Now, I’m not really pantsing it like I usually do. Instead, I’ve actually outlined the story. And I’ve started outlining the sequel (It’s a planned trilogy). It’s a new experience and one I’m finding is quiet handy. It helps me keep everything in perspective.

Does it mean I’m going to change my pantsing ways? Probably not. I’ll still pants it most of the time. I’m doing so with “The Best Medicine,” my NaNo project. But I may outline a future story now that I know it can help.

  1. I find writing is like life, you can make an outline and plan and even the best plans go awry. Good for you pantster!
