A Writer's Journey

I have a little confession—I write these blog posts in advance. This is going up in May. I wrote it nearly a month ago. So don’t be surprised if there’s a little addendum at the end.

Anyway, I may have made a comment that I see an ending in sight for “The Wedding Game.” Or at least it’s first draft. I realized it a few weeks ago, in bed. I was just thinking through it, kinda plotting the rest of the novel. The sex scene. The afterglow. Her uncle’s reaction. The fight.

When I was thinking about it, I finally had a chapter count. It is going to be 19 chapters by my estimation. Maybe 20, just because I like even numbers (Smile). But it gives me a light at the end of the tunnel.

Of course, it’s just a flicker. That’s just the first draft. And trust me—no one’s first draft is perfect. So once I’m done, then comes the hard part—revision. This is where you have to get mean. Which words aren’t gold? Which sentences are pointless? Which characters do little and can be lost?

And that’s not just it. That draft goes up on Book Country for more reviews. And that might mean more changes. No, it’ll definitely mean more changes. I’ve also been considering joining a writing group. Or a writers’ group. But more on that later.

So that’s where I am now. I wrote the sex scene for the novel. Right now, I’m happy with it. That could change when I go to type it up. It happens.
