A Writer's Journey

Book Country

So, I went to the New York Comic Con last month. And in case you were wondering, I went as Narcissa Malfoy. If you were at New York Comic Con on Saturday, I was in the group with the two green monkeys from Legends of the Hidden Temple. If you have pictures, let me know. They are looking to collect them all in one online place.

Anyway, we pushed our way around the different vendors in the Jacob Javitts Center. As I walked around, I took a pamphlet from a place called “Book Country.” Here is the blurb from the inside flap of the pamphlet:

“Book Country is a new online community for writers and readers of genre fiction, specifically science fiction, fantasy, romance, mystery and thriller. We’re a supportive online space where writers and readers can engage in a positive atmosphere of encouragement, collaboration, and creativity. And membership is free; join us!”

And I was intrigued. I am serious about publishing one of my novels (namely “The Wedding Game”). And I know I need a peer review. Of course that would never replace a good professional proofreader. But they can tell me if I’m on the right path or not.

So I signed up to Book Country. Here’s my profile. Please check it out. I have posted the first two chapters of “The Wedding Game.” If you aren’t a member, you won’t be able to read the second chapter. I don’t know if non-members are allowed to comment, but if you are, please do. Or join.

I have already planned some changes to “The Wedding Game” thanks to one comment received. I never really set a time or a place for the story, wanting it to be vague. But my reader said it was confusing. Now, in my mind, I always imagined it set in the 12th century of England. So, I’m making it official.

What does that mean? It means a lot more research for me. Which I’m trying to do. So, if anyone knows of any good books about 12th century England, leave the name and author in the comments!

And please check out my Book Country profile!

  8. You’re preaching to the choir! I always support doing research. My current story was just a case of not really wanting to set a definite time and place when I initially started so I am a bit late in doing background research, but I’ve done other types for the story.
